5 foods that are bad for your joints
Your joints can hurt from a lot of things: aging, overworked, you didn't see that table while you were trying to get a glass of water at night. Some people suffer from chronic joint pain and this can be helped by or worsened by what you eat. Below are some things that you should avoid if you want better joint health.
Alcohol
No doctor has ever said, your knees are bad, here take two shots of vodka after each meal. That's not a doctor. It's probably three dogs in a coat. Alcohol seems to be the root of all evil. Alcohol comes with all kinds of health hazards and it is beneficial even for your joint health to decrease your alcohol consumption.
Pasta, muffin, basically carbs
This is like saying avoid all good food. No, that's not what I am saying. Overeating carbs lead to gaining weight. This can be incredibly burdensome for your joints. Eating fewer carbs can help with your joints but an occasional treat for yourself is okay.
Fried food
You probably hate this post by now. You can fry a shoe and it will taste good. However, fried food can increase inflammation, which is what causes a lot of joint pain. Also, reducing inflammation can help with the body's immune system. It's a win-win. If you are craving something oily, how about treating yourself to some salmon?
Refined Sugar
No one eats a spoon full of sugar unless you are children under the supervision of Mary Poppins (where were the child services?). But this isn't so crazy because we willingly drink cans and cans of soda. In one can of coke, there are more than 9 teaspoons of sugar. If someone tries to offer you to eat 9 teaspoons of sugar, you would think that person is crazy. But we do it. So being more conscious about food choices can help reduce sugar in your diet. A large amount of sugar can not only lead to obesity but also can result in inflammation, causing pain.
Dairy
Although dairy contains a good amount of protein, the type of protein contained in them can irritate the joints. Dairy is also high in fat, which can contribute to obesity and diabetes, further worsening your joints. Changing your sources of protein can be helpful.
I am sure you have already heard that fried foods are bad and refined products are terrible. We aren't all of a sudden going to start our mornings with a gallon of a kale smoothie. It is hard to change the way you lived for all these years. This is just a reminder to be more conscious about your diet. Just that itself can help. Maybe next time you try to grab a can of soda, you will think, "Ew, 9 tablespoons of sugar." Reducing even one can of coke out of your daily diet help. It all starts one step at a time.
